Mill Creek Summit Parish First Year Anniversary WorshipHere are photos of the first anniversary of Mill Creek Summit Parish worship held in the Washington City Park on the 22nd of August.
Washington United Methodist Bell Choir The
Washington United Methodist Church Bell Choir started in June (or July) of
1993. The bells were purchased with money from the Memorial Fund. Bell choirs can have up to 5 octaves of handbells. Our choir has 2
octaves, 25 bells, played by eight choir members. The notes are
similar to a piano keyboard. The bells with white handles are natural
notes and the bells with black handles are flats and sharps. When a
chord is played, each person plays one note in the chord. The bells
vary in tones according to size. The large bells play lower tones
while the small bells play high tones. The bells are made of 80% copper and 20% tin. They are polished to
a jewelers finish. They do not have lacquer to protect their finish
because lacquer would diminish the musical quality of the bell.
Because of this type of finish, the bell ringers wear white cotton gloves.
These gloves protect the bells from the acid of ringers skin.
Fingerprints may leave an imprint on the bell. Frequently the bells
are wiped off to remove any residue that may be on them. The Bell Choir plays on the second Sunday of each month, September through May. Members of the Bell Choir for 2004-2005 are:
